Music Engineer / Audio Engineer

The Music/Audio Engineering program is designed to introduce students to recording in computerized and networking environments and provides technical training in sound recording, from setup to mix-down. You will also get detailed discussions and animations of technical terms, computerized recording concepts and techniques, editing with the computer and software music/audio production and editing. Training project planning as well as preproduction, production, and post-production.

Students work with the latest state of the art Apple and PC based ProTools systems just like any big time music or audio studio would use. OmniTech even has 64 track ProTools HD with pro worksurface and soundbooth.

This program will also provide students with a foundation for computer networking engineering basics which is an essential requirement for being an effective Music / Audio Engineer.

Course Description

NE 100: INTRO TO COMPUTERS

70 Contact Hours

This course is designed for a user who has never used a personal computer and needs to use a personal computer on the job.

 

 

NE 101: A+ Hardware and Operating Systems

70 Contact Hours

(Exam 220-221 and 220-222)

This course provides the competencies and skills needed to repair and maintain PC’s.

A+ Certification provides the essential prerequisite knowledge for candidates pursuing other certificates such as the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer).

Certification is achieved by passing two computer-based exams at any Authorized Testing Center.  The core exam tests the candidate’s fundamental knowledge of service procedures and computer hardware, while the elective exam measures the candidate’s knowledge of installation and support of DOS and Windows systems and application.

 

NE 110: Windows I

 (Exam 70-210)

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install and configure Microsoft Windows XP Pro on stand-alone computers and on client computers that are part of a workgroup or a domain.

 

NE 215: Windows II

70 Contact Hours

(Exam 70-215)

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install and configure Microsoft Windows Server on stand-alone computers and on client computers that are part of a workgroup or a domain.  In addition, this course provides the skills and knowledge necessary to install and configure Microsoft Windows Server to create file, print, and Terminal servers. 

 

 

ME 114: Music Recording Software

40 Contact Hours

 Focuses on the foundational skills needed to learn and function within the Pro Tools, Reasons, Logic, Sonar and other music software environments at a basic level. 

 

 

ME 201: Computerized Recording

40 Contact Hours

Computerized Essentials will thoroughly breakdown Pro Tools, preparing each student for the pre-production process leading up to the final step of mastering.

 

 

ME 350: Plug-Ins, Mixing, Mastering

40 Contact Hours

This class is designed to introduce students to the concept of plug-ins used to emulate hardware effects devices and instruments.  This course will show the development of plug-ins from their hardware predecessors.

 

ME 111: Intro to Midi

40 Contact Hours

This course will introduce students to music and the computer.

 

 

ME 101: Intro to Music Engineering & Music Theory

40 Contact Hours

This course will focuses on a foundation of skills needed to competently operate in a professional audio recording environment. 

 

 

ME 211: Sound Recording I

80 Contact Hours

This class gives students a hands-on view of the studio recording process. Concepts covered include software interfaces including Pro Tools, digital audio editing, plug-in effects, music sharing via CD and Internet

 

 

ME 301: Sound Recording II

80 Contact Hours                  

This class is designed to guide students through operating certain advanced parts or functions of Pro Tools.

 

 

ME 311: Sound Recording III

40 Contact Hours                  

This course focuses advanced music-editing, and miking techniques

 

 

ME 312: Intro to Music Biz

40 Contact Hours

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of conducting business in the music industry.  Topics include publishing, copyright, networking and marketing music.

 advanced operation of Pro Tools TDM systems for music production.

 

 

NE 216: MAC OS X

40 Contact Hours

To learn how to operate Apple Macintosh Computers that dominate the audio engineering industry by becoming familiar with the operating system and Apple hardware.
